Free agent guard DeMar DeRozan was acquired by the Sacramento Kings in a three-team sign-and-trade, inking a 3-year, $74 deal.
The deal sends forward Harrison Barnes and an unprotected 2031 pick swap to the San Antonio Spurs, while the Chicago Bulls receive guard Chris Duarte, two-second draft picks and cash.
Barnes, 32, appeared in and started, all 82 games for the Kings, averaging 12.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per contest. Along with recently acquired Chris Paul, the veteran forward can provide steady play for a very young San Antonio Spurs team that features young phenom Victor Wembanyama.
Chris Duarte comes to the Bulls coming off a season in which he averaged 3.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in 59 appearances. However, since his rookie season where he averaged 13.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, his numbers have declined over the two subsequent seasons, including the career-low numbers this season.
DeRozan spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Bulls, where he was an All-Star in each of his first two seasons in the Windy City. This past season DeRozan, 34, appeared in 79 contests and averaged 24.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 assists on .480/.333/.853 splits and was runner-up to Stephen Curry for NBA Clutch Player of the Year.
It was reported earlier Saturday that DeRozan was en route to Sacramento to meet with team officials and head coach Mike Brown.
DeRozan is now joined with DeAaron Fox and Domatas Sabonis to form an intriguing new triumvirate in a challenging Western Conference.
